SMOKE FREE COMMUNITY is all about supporting our mob in the mid north coast region to chuck the smokes and live a healthier lifestyle. Theres plenty of ways to start getting healthier today and lots of great resources out there to help you give up the smokes. Your local Aboriginal Medical Service is also a great source of advice as well as a provider of high quality, culturally appropriate holistic primary health care.
Galambila Aboriginal Health Service CEO, Kristine Garrett said “Smoking rates are almost three times higher in the Aboriginal community and it is so important that we get the message out and support smokers and people that have not started to smoke”.
Health Worker Tyson Morris believes that the Smoke Free Community concept will make a positive change in the community. “We have been talking to hundreds of people and there’s been overwhelming support. Old and young people have been coming to our events talking about how they can quit the smokes themselves or help a family member to stop smoking”.
This SMOKE FREE community-based social marketing campaign is being implemented by Aboriginal Medical Services in the mid North Coast to reduce smoking rates in the Aboriginal community.
